Reading and Phonics
We teach phonics using Letters and Sounds as a basis for planning and progression. To support this we use Jolly Phonics to introduce the first sounds (phonemes) with actions in Early Years. Children are given a book with each sound to practise at home. We also use 'new friends - best friends' as a away of developing sight reading skills for high frequency words and common exception words.
Our reading books are organised into book bands using a combination of reading schemes including Oxford Reading Tree, Bug Club and Rigby Star. Children read individually, in groups and whole class reading sessions.
